Italian Bread

Big Daddy is baking up some Italian Bread. This bread will make you forget the grocery store stuff, it has so much more flavor. You’ll want to make this bread to serve with a lasagna.

Instructions

  1. Make the starter: add flour, water, and yeast in a small bowl and stir to combine. Allow to sit overnight.
  2. Make the dough: combine the starter, flour, water, salt and yeast into the bowl a stand mixer.
  3. Knead for 8-10 minutes until you get a soft dough.
  4. Place in a greased bowl and allow to rise for 45 minutes, then punch down and allow to raise for 45 more minutes.
  5. Shape dough: Divide dough into three parts. Roll each piece into a long rope, then braid them together, tucking ends under.
  6. Place on baking sheet and cover with greased plastic wrap. Allow to rise for 60 minutes.
  7. Make the topping: combine egg and water in a small bowl.
  8. Gently brush with the glaze and sprinkle the sesame seeds over the bread.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the internal temp reaches 190° F.
  10. Allow to cool before slicing.
